Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to read, order, and book at Pig & Whistle Hotel. This page describes our commitment, the standard we hold ourselves to, and how to tell us when we fall short.
The standard
The Pig & Whistle Hotel website is built to conform with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We test every public page against this standard using both automated tooling (axe-core) and manual review (keyboard navigation, screen reader pass-through).
We also work within the spirit of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth), which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in the provision of goods, services, and facilities.
What we've done
- Keyboard: every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard alone. Focus is always visible.
- Screen readers: semantic HTML, descriptive
aria-labels on icon-only buttons, skip-to-content link at the top of every page. - Contrast: body text contrast ≥ 4.5:1; large text ≥ 3:1.
- Motion: users with
prefers-reduced-motion: reducesee no hero animations, no auto-scroll, no parallax. - Forms: clear labels, helpful error messages, fields announced by screen readers,
aria-liveregions for form feedback. - Images: every meaningful image has descriptive alt text.
- Languages: the page declares its language as English (Australian).
- Predictable navigation: the same header and footer on every page, with the same item order.
What we're still working on
No site is ever fully done. We currently track:
- More descriptive alt text on the journal photo essays (work in progress).
- A higher-contrast theme variant for users with low vision (under design).
- Captions on the kitchen live-strip video (not currently captioned — we recommend muting audio).
In-restaurant
- Service-trained staff. Menu available in large print (ask at the counter).
- Guide dogs and assistance animals are welcome.
- Access varies by venue — for step-free entry, accessible bathrooms, or anything else you need on the day, call us on (03) 5424 1213 before you visit and we will tell you exactly what to expect.
Tell us
If something isn't working for you, please tell us. We take accessibility seriously and we will fix what we can:
Email cheers@pigandwhistlehotel.com.au Phone (03) 5424 1213
We aim to respond within two business days, and we keep an internal log of feedback to make sure recurring issues get fixed and not just patched.
Formal complaints
If you would like to make a formal complaint about an accessibility barrier, you may also contact the Australian Human Rights Commission at humanrights.gov.au.
